Bilateral cooperation between Singapore and Laos has seen significant growth in recent years, particularly in sectors such as energy, carbon credits, and the fight against transnational crime. The relationship has been described as "very good and warm" by PM Wong.

Saleumxay Kommasith, formerly a deputy prime minister, was appointed to his new role by Laos’ National Assembly on October 5, with unanimous support from the 158 members present. He succeeds Sonexay Siphandone, who has moved to become president of the National Assembly.

PM Wong pointed to the Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project as a prime example of successful collaboration. This initiative, which commenced in 2022, facilitates Singapore's import of hydropower from Laos via Thailand and Malaysia, advancing regional electricity connectivity.

Singapore also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Laos' development through training programs offered via the Singapore Cooperation Programme and the Initiative for Asean Integration. This year marks 25 years of development cooperation between the two countries, a partnership Singapore intends to continue strengthening in line with Laos' development goals.

Extending the invitation for an official visit, PM Wong expressed his eagerness to collaborate closely with Prime Minister Saleumxay to further advance bilateral relations.
